Free users: Minimum of two hours between updates, but usually longer. Updates are at lowest priority and only occur after updates for paid users. If updates for free users grow too long, the queue for free users is wiped, which leads to longer update times. Free users also have a Feed Digest graphic on digests. That said, this level will suffice for anyone who doesn't need up to the minute / up to the hour news, but merely up to the day! Feeds that are used by many other users will update far more frequently.
Paid users: Depending on account level, your updates "jump the queue" and get processed far more quickly. However, the minimum time between updates is not changed by default. Feeds that do not have a minimum caching time specified (many do, such as Yahoo's, who sometimes specify levels as low as 5 minutes!) will still default to two hours. However, we can manually turn these down in most cases to at least one hour, but sometimes as low as 15 minutes IF doing so is unlikely to result in us being blocked or banned by the provider of the feed. So, for example, we would NOT turn Google News feeds down to 15 minutes, as Google could block us and put many of our users' digests in the dark. Netiquette says once per hour is the right level if no other level is specified or agreed upon, so that is as low as we'd go on many feeds.
