Note that this is really only a useful function to people who want a "verbatim" digest.. that is, a digest which precisely matches the source feed(s) that go into it. This doesn't apply to 99%+ of users.

Basically, you would get more *precise* updates.

Verbatim mode works like this.. whenever we crawl your site, rather than merely add new items into our database, we WIPE all of that feed's entries, and enter them all in as new from the feed. This means what we show generally matches the feed's exact contents. The downside to this is that there's no archival (by definition - as we wipe and rebuild entries on every crawl).

Peter,

What would be the advantages of using this? Would I get faster or better updates? I use RSS feeds from a bookmark service to update article links on my site. This looks interesting but I have to be honest and admit that I'm not completely sure what it would do for me. Could you explain in a little more depth and sloooowly for old duffers like me :)

Here's what I need if you want this feature enabled.

1. Understand it's a BETA feature. I've tested it, and it seems to work okay.. and any problem is rescue-able.. but do bear in mind "things may happen" :)

2. I need the ID of your digest.. that's the ten letter code that uniquely represents your digest. It looks something like E1XJDU5ENJ, etc..

3. Ideally it'd be nice to know the URL where you're showing the digest (if any) so I can check it out once enabled.

It would be super if we could try it out here, too. I was just about to post and ask what the difference "source feed" and "original order" was, because I'm trying to accomplish something like what you described right here with the verbatim stuff.

The initial tests of this are going okay and the feature is now 99% implemented on the "back end". Now there needs to be an integration with your control panels, etc.

I am currently working on a new feature called "Verbatim Mode" that will allow you to make sure that for certain feeds the data in our database (and in your digests!) is EXACTLY the same as that in your feed. This means those feeds will have no archive, but be a literal "copy". This will assist those users who are having issues updating posts and then wondering why our database does not update.

I will post again at the end of the night with progress.
