you can edit the template manually. Add after the tag %TITLE% the number of characters you want, i.e.
%TITLE,40% to include first 40 characters.

Right now, I have an ad hoc fix going. I'm eliminating posts with a "www" and an element of a common web address being used.

Is there a way to break up feed items which contain long website addresses onto more than one line? In other words, if an address is 120 characters long, the box containing my feed automatically expands, which screws up the rest of my site.
