negative keywords are acceptable in both filters, they just should be added without brackets.

As for excluding sites, unfortunately it is not possible at the moment. Still we bear it in mind for future releases.

Is there a better way to do this? Also, is there a way to make my feed recognize and refuse information from specific sites? I've tried entering it in negative terms in the "AND" filter (-www.nameofsite.com)(-nameofsite) but it doesn't work.
