Silver Championships Info

Monday, July 28, 2014
The Silver Champs meet format has been adjusted in order to host the meet.   The meet was going to be cancelled due to the lack of entries.  Middle Atlantic and NLAC have revised the meet format to accommodate a smaller meet and to not take a financial loss.  Attached is the time line listing the event order for each day along with a letter with more details on the changes.

10 &Under Timers: We are not assigning timers for the 10 & under sessions but will definitely need some assistance in this area each day.  The sessions will be quick (no more than 2 hours with a break after each boys event).  Please speak with your parents attending this session about timing.  Thanks!

Likewise, we are not assigning timers for the Finals session however we could use some help each night getting the session started on time.  We need at least 8 timers to get the meet started on time each evening.

Zone Team/Zone Table at JOs

There will be an MA Zone Team table set-up at GCIT from Friday Finals through Sunday Finals.  Any new qualifiers may turn in their applications and fees at that table.  We will only be accepting NEW QUALIFIERS or NEW EVENTS for existing applications.  There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.  If a child has qualified in any events prior to July 22, and intends to go to Zones, they must have their application in to the MA office by July 22 (that’s Tuesday).  We will not accept their application at Junior Olympics.

Check-in for Deck Seeded Events (800, 1500, 400 IM, 400 Free, ALL relays): Check-in for the 11-14 distance events on Thursday will close at 9:30 am.  Check in for the distance events being contested on Sunday will close at 6:30 pm on SATURDAY.

AM Relays check-in by 7:00AM (swimmers may be changed after check in but relay must be checked in to be seeded)

10/under relays at the start of 10/under session  (swimmers may be changed after check in but relay must be checked in to be seeded)

400 Free 11/14 10AM Friday

400 Free for 10/under 2:45PM Friday

400IM  11/14 10AM Saturday

All 11-14 relays on Sunday swim with prelims as per the meet information.  Check in for these relays must be completed by 10 am.

ALL SWIMMERS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN TIMER AND COUNTER FOR THE 800 AND 1500 RACES.  SWIMMERS MUST ALSO PROVIDE THEIR OWN TIMERS FOR THE 11-12/13-14 400 FREESTYLE AND 400 IM.

MA Junior Olympics

Sunday, July 6, 2014

MA Junior Olympics – July 24-27 (Thursday A.M.-Sunday)

Entry Deadline:  Sunday, July 13 by 11:59 P.M.

Attached is the eligibility report for qualified swimmers and their events.  Qualifying times must have been achieved on or after January 01, 2013.   Swimmers should enter their best 9 events over the four day meet.  Swimmers will be expected to compete in relays on the days in which they are entered.  The meet information is attached along with qualifying time standards.

Qualifying times achieved @ the LAC Speedo Classic can still be entered.   You must notify me (fasty3@aol.com) by Monday, July 14 by 5:00 P.M. with any additions or first time qualifiers.

Meet invitations will be sent following this email from gregfastrich@gmail.com email address, NOT fasty4@aol.com.  The problem with active.com is AOL and Yahoo changed their policies.  Meet invites can no longer be sent from AOL or Yahoo accounts.  However, if you have addresses from either of these, you will still receive meet invites.  This was an issue strictly from Greg’s email address.

I would also like to encourage all Junior Olympic Qualifiers to participate in divisionals.  If you swim at divisionals and are swimming at JO’s on Saturday, you will be scratched from All Stars.  Swimmers may only swim at All Stars if they are available for Mid-Caps.  Regarding Mid-Caps, I would suggest 13-14 year olds not attend if they have Junior Olympic qualifying times on Saturday.  12 and unders can do either or on Saturday.

Coach Jeff

Thursday Mile – The Pre-Scratch Heat sheets are here.  This will give you an idea of when you athletes will swim.  THESE WILL CHANGE, but I want each of you to have an idea.  We will most likely take a  10 minute break after Heat 6.

The Campus Dining hours are here (nice one page printable flyer).  This option is one of your best ways to feed your athletes for a great price.

For the events 400 meters and over (Freestyle events), each of your athletes will need to provide their own timers.  Be sure your parents or other swimmers know that we will need their assistance for all freestyle events 400 meters and longer.  For the 800 free and mile, your athletes will need to provide their own counters.  The host teams will provide timers for the 400 IM’s on Saturday AM

Reminder we have a change from previous years on the athlete entrance.  All swimmers, parents, and coaches will enter from the FRONT of the building.  No one will enter from the back of the building.  There will be signage at the facility to direct your swimmers and parents

Deck chairs – You will need to remove all “Deck Chairs” at the end of each night.  The Bucknell support services staff sanitize the entire pool deck each evening, thus you will NOT be permitted to keep your chairs at the facility

Scratch back – Please be sure everyone (especially your parents) understand how we run this meet.  Coaches will “scratch back” their athletes and we will then re-seed the session and print heat sheets prior to each session, thus not having any empty lanes for all sessions.  There will be times that heat sheets are not available until 3-5 minutes prior to the start of the session.  Remind your parents that Bucknell University does have a very nice HD Video Scoreboard that displays all swimmers name and lanes in case heat sheets are not available when the first heat enters the water

Food on deck – Bucknell University does NOT allow food on the pool deck.  Please inform your athletes of this rule.  It is always unfortunate when I (or the facilities staff) have to come and remind coaches of this rule.
AM session to begin at 7:30am- The facility will open at 6:15am and warm-ups will begin at 6:30am.

detailed timeline with start and finish session times is here

Pre Meet Psych sheets are updated daily here

Here is a quick “one page” website where you can direct your parents that I will keep updated throughout the meet
