Penn State has opened a national search for the inaugural candidate for the position of senior vice provost and chief of staff. Working with Fotis Sotiropoulos, incoming executive vice president and provost, the position will provide high-level leadership and serve as an adviser and integrative leader across academic and administrative units.

Penn State student-athletes registered a stellar semester in the classroom with a 3.28 term grade-point average in spring 2025. The Nittany Lions had spring records with 578 students (73%) with a 3.0 semester GPA and 291 dean’s list honorees (12+ credits & 3.5 semester GPA). In addition, 62 full-time students tallied a 4.0 semester with 16 carrying a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Rates of the Powassan virus infections — which can cause seizures and paralysis — are increasing across North America. Researchers led by Soo-yong Byun, a College of Education professor, found that South Korean elementary students who consistently attend private tutoring are more likely to become behaviorally disengaged in their regular classrooms. The results raise concerns about the unintended consequences of supplemental learning, Byun said.

Han Chen, a doctoral student in the College of Arts and Architecture’s Department of Art History, has been awarded a Smithsonian Institution Predoctoral Fellowship at the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C., where she will work on her dissertation titled “Chinese Art en route: (Re)constructing Global Knowledge of China in the Art Markets, 1900-1950.”
