7 Unclaimed Tattoo Designs My Clients Are Afraid To Do

I've been tattooing for a little over a year and most of my exclusive designs tend to be a little bit too complex, so some of them are left unclaimed.

One of the main reasons is that this style of etching/engraving is very time consuming, so people often avoid the more detailed pieces so they don't have to sit for multiple sessions or at least a long one.

It is important not to get numb to the horrific images of mass killings of Ukrainians and their pain. The seemingly never-ending horrors imposed by Russia on the Ukrainian land must not become the norm. With countries such as Germany not stepping up and posing adequate sanctions on the aggressor – choosing money over people, makes it hard to remain hopeful. Therefore it’s crucial that we keep acting – spreading truthful information, volunteering, protesting, donating, and pressuring our governments to take action.

Despite decades of campaigning and policy change, air pollution is still worsening for more than half the world’s population. You might not notice the worsening effect in your daily, hometown life. But when you travel, the sight of industrial smog has a sobering effect.

As part of their mission to draw attention to the quality of the air you breathe, HouseFresh wanted to show you how 10 famous views could look if local human-made air pollution levels increase. The team found iconic photos of the views and, on each one, emulated the visual effect that air pollution has on the skyline of Ghaziabad, India, frequently ranked as the “most polluted city worldwide.”

According to them, “when the first 2020 lockdown struck, a bonus was the drop in air pollution. The view through our windows seemed freshly polished. Tourist attractions shone with an intensity unseen for decades. Environmentalists keenly told us that this was a wake-up call, not a turning point”. However, this was only temporary.

The most polluted city in the world is Hotan, China, which reports air pollution predominantly as a result of desert dust storms rather than man-made pollution, which is why the ream chose the second-most polluted city.

QueenNoble Dr. Elle Ramirez is an American artist that creates satisfying embossed and protruding artworks. She is known for her textured abstract pieces mimicking planets, natural stones and rocks, several monochromatic and vivid concepts wall artworks since 2006.

QueenNoble started creating artwork at the age of 7 in Switzerland and discovered her obsession with textures when she was in high school. She started her exhibitions in her college days back in the early 2000s.

She said, “I love the feeling of making the textured artworks. Something not just what the eyes can see but something you’ll enjoy touching once in a while like those natural rocks, molded clay earth. Those give us a sense of comfort and we find at least a little time to remove some of the extra stress within us. Art is therapy.”

Dr. Ramirez also mentioned the importance of doing art as a hobby such as painting once or twice a week. She added: “art is healing. Let yourself express yourself through art or by writing, photography, painting, dance or through music.”

I Created 6 Adoptable Animals To Raise Money For Ukraine

It is easy to forget about something even if you see it every day. Though Ukraine’s war is not new news, it is far from over, so I made these six digital drawings to raise support for the Ukrainian people!

I have always loved to draw, and I realized my work could be used for good causes when I saw the #makersforukraine hashtag on Instagram. I spent 30-40 minutes on each animal and put lots of love into this project in hopes that my small efforts can make a big impact.

Hey, my name is Adam and I'm a cartoonist based in Berlin. I'm 34 and originally from Warsaw. A year and a half ago I started drawing my comics about Depression Chicken.

In the beginning, my drawings were a kind of therapy for me. Through the figure of the Depression Chicken, I expressed how I was feeling. I didn't feel understood for my depression, I thought there was something wrong with me. Until my community started growing more and I heard from people on Instagram that they could relate to my little silly stories. Then I knew: I'm not alone!

Dads Share 30 Times Their Daughters Used Them For Makeup Experiments And It’s Hilariously Wholesome

Being used as an art project might not be the ideal way to start a day or end one. But when kids get the urge to create a piece of art on your face, will you really be able to say no, especially when it’s your little girl having a go at makeup? One man shared the result of one such activity, motivating a parade of dads to come flooding in with their own experiences.

But beyond the hilarity of the somewhat Picassoesque creations lies the caption of the original post, stating “see this… this is why I wanted boys”, which some could take as a joke when it’s followed by a distraught reddened face. But I have an issue with it as it assumes that his boys wouldn’t be playing with makeup or having some creative time with their dad. Let’s look at some hilarious pictures and discuss the need for creativity, good relationships with dads, and the complexities of gender and makeup.

One man, named ‘Domooooo’ on Twitter, decided to post a picture of himself seemingly covered in red face paint or makeup, the caption stating “see this…this is why I wanted boys”, implying that his daughter or multiple of them had created the beautiful drawings on their dad’s face. The tweet has gained a lot of traction, at least 118K likes and dozens of dads sharing their own experiences, whether that be hairdos, pedicures, or more makeup. In my opinion, they all look fabulous!

Regardless of the sour expressions on their faces and the common dad captioning the pictures with “I feel your pain”, their kids look to be having the best time getting to spend it with their dads, the girls in the pictures either getting hugs or providing a kiss to their dad’s colored cheek. It just shows the importance of having such quality time and building a strong bond with a father figure and science agrees.

As written on Very Well Family, a daughter's relationship with her father can play a key role in her psychological development, providing the foundation to becoming a confident and self-assured woman. D. Scott Sibley, Associate Professor at Northern Illinois University, argues that a father’s presence in their daughter’s life aids in preventing negative outcomes, such as teenage pregnancy, dating violence, and risky sexual behavior, especially if the relationship is based on open communication and trust.

You might think, ‘well, isn’t it enough to have a good relationship with her mom to aid in all that?’ and it’s a good question, but the mother’s role has often been exaggerated and the father’s role diminished, placing both of them into rigid societal and family roles, but now that the family model has become more fluid, more attention has been paid to the importance of the father.

As described on Hello Weldon, “while both sexes look at how parents act, boys tend to see how a man is supposed to act but daughters often take away how a man should treat her.” So when the father can exude the strength and power that society attributes to masculinity towards his daughter, through spending quality time together, she can take on these attributes and become a confident little rockstar, able to take on the world, letting no one treat her badly.

However, if we’re looking at the social constructs of masculinity, we cannot ignore the recently forged discussion regarding toxic masculinity and its potential implications. Amy Morin, psychotherapist and author, defines toxic masculinity as a collection of certain cultural pressures for men to behave in a certain way in order to be considered ‘manly’, which can result in domineering, homophobic, and aggressive behavior.

Often exaggerated masculine traits that many cultures have widely accepted or glorified tend to fall into one of three categories: toughness, anti-femininity, and power. Notions of physical strength, emotional indifference, and gaining respect through status are few of the traits that define masculinity as a whole, which aren’t necessarily bad or wrong; just that an excessive push for it may lead to unwanted outcomes for both the individual and society.

According to Amy, toxic masculinity glorifies unhealthy habits, with beliefs “stating that ‘self-care is for women’ and men should treat their bodies like machines by skimping on sleep, working out even when they’re injured, and pushing themselves to their physical limits.” It also discourages men from seeing doctors, asking for help, and the inherent emotionlessness of masculinity may lead to mental health issues. But, thankfully, society is starting to walk towards a more healthy future, regardless of how slow the steps seem to be, and one of those ways is through makeup.

Megan O’Grady wrote in The New York Times that it’s quite ironic “that makeup has now become a symbol for a dissolving gender binary when, for much of the 20th century, it was just one more thing that divided the sexes.” It’s never been a woman-only thing to embellish oneself, quite the contrary, however, we can thank Beau Brummel for the starkness and lack of color that defines the masculine look of today.

Megan describes makeup as an inexpensive tool for self expression, allowing all those who use it to delve into the conundrum of self expression, whether to fit in or to stand out, “to feel, at long last, liberated from shrunken notions of gender and grossly restrictive social confines.” At the end of the day - it is just paint. What we attribute to it is deeply embedded in our perception of its meaning, whether a mode of expression or a form of definition.

In the end, all those are taught to your kids whilst they’re still finding and defining who they are themselves. The Raising Children Network states that any creative activity can boost a child’s confidence, teach them social skills, help them understand and express their emotions, and learn about the world around them.

It is especially helpful for the parents to get involved when the child needs some extra help or encouragement, or just wants to share in the activity with their favorite people. It can help strengthen bonds, build trust, and bring the parents closer to their own childhood selves.

Ultimately, the goal is to have fun and make memories that last a lifetime, whether that be with your little girls or boys. Wayne Parker, a life coach and mentor, states that you should “follow your child's cues if they show an interest in learning something new, even if you know little about it. Show your child that learning is a lifetime journey, and it's never too late to pick up a new hobby or skill.” Don’t let outdated rules stop you from having fun and building lasting relationships with your kids, because they won’t remember how manly their dad was, but rather, how loving and caring they are.

We wish the best of luck to these dads in their adventures with their daughters, who they clearly love lots. But let’s also move towards a society where dads don’t have to worry about their social standing whilst moving away from the rigid structures of masculinity and allowing kids to delve into whatever they wish, whether that be a boy playing with makeup, or a girl playing with toy cars.

This Artist Makes Weekly Comics For The Guardian And New Scientist Magazine, Here’s 30 Of His Works

Characters with simple, expressionless forms, involved in mundane, humorous and sometimes philosophical conversations about literature, art and science: that's how we would describe comics by Tom Gauld. He is a cartoonist and illustrator from Scotland, currently living in London and creating charming and unassuming illustrations that have something for every person to admire.

Tom's work is regularly published in The Guardian, The New Yorker and New Scientist and he has almost 100 thousand followers on Instagram! The artist has also created a number of children's books and comic books that are worthy of checking out.

Bored Panda got in touch with the artist to learn more about him and his creative process. Tom shared that drawing has always been his favorite thing to do, and he has loved comics since first discovering "Tintin" at his local library.

"I've wanted to draw comics forever, but it took me a long time to realize that I could write them as well. I thought you needed to study literature or something before you could be a writer. But when I was at art school I met a fellow student named Simone Lia and we encouraged each other to make our first cartoons, which we went on to self-publish together in a book called 'First'. We started out just making silly little jokes and in the years since have both gone on to write graphic novels and picture books. Though I'm still very fond of making silly little jokes."

Reading the comics, we noticed that literature and science are the most common themes that appear in almost all of the illustrations we have chosen to share. Tom revealed that the practical reason for these themes is that he makes weekly comics for The Guardian's books section and New Scientist magazine. But the reason he can do this week after week is that he is genuinely interested in the subjects of science and literature. "Literature makes sense as it's pretty close to what I do as a job, but science is more of a personal interest that's slowly oozed into my work. I've never studied science, but I was close to my grandfather who was a marine biologist and he sparked a lifelong interest in all aspects of science. Tom Gauld has been drawing comics for quite some time now. However, even an experienced artist like Tom faces some challenges when it comes to creation.

The artist admitted that the hardest part of the creative process for him is coming up with ideas. "There's some little spark that has to go off in my brain and, unfortunately, I don't know how to make it happen. I can encourage it, but there's no guarantee it'll come. So sometimes I sit doodling for hours and hours and nothing comes, so at the end of the day I just have to hope the next day will be better. Conversely, sometimes the spark comes without any effort, and that's a lovely feeling. My favorite part of the process is the point where I've got what I know is a decent idea and I'm figuring out how to make it work best on the page: how to use the tools of comics (words, pictures, layouts) to communicate as effectively as possible."

After being asked where Tom gets inspiration for his works, the artist replied that he has always got a deadline just around the corner, so he is on "high alert" for anything that could be an idea for a cartoon. "I always carry around a notebook and scribble down anything that could be the beginning of an idea. It could be something I overhear on the street, or a scene in a movie, or an article in a magazine, or a painting. I'll take anything I can get! My daughter was recently using a sleep app that played soothing sounds and I knew right away there was something I could do with that."

"I love telling stories and making people laugh, and comics are such an interesting way of doing that. I'm still always learning new ways to communicate through comics and getting inspired by the way other artists make their comics. I just got back from the Angouleme Comics Festival in France where I saw so many inspiring things, not least a career retrospective of Chris Ware's cartooning which was enormously impressive."

They say to not judge a book by its cover. But what if the cover tells you more than thousands of words? Welcome to Story Of My F Life, an Instagram account created by Jason Mustian that’s basically a library of imaginary book covers with nothing inside.

It’s because the book titles are so spot-on, you don't need anything else to add. They’re painfully hilarious, obnoxiously embarrassing, everyday bits of wisdom that tell the whole story with just a few sentences. Think of a fantasy story about “an email finding you well” or a guide of “how to make it through the afternoon when it’s too late for coffee and too early for vodka.”

The person behind the Story Of My F Life project, which currently has 140k followers on Instagram and more than 37k followers on Facebook, is created by viral content creator, writer and illustrator Jason Mustian. Mustian is also behind some of the internet’s powerhouses for viral content like @tweetpikmemes, @tldr.wikipedia and @tastefullyoffensive.

Thanks to the popularity of his imaginary book titles, Mustian recently published a book “Story of My F Life: A Journal for Banishing the BS, Unlocking Your Creativity, and Celebrating the Absurdity of Life” which is described as “a self-care tool and hilarious journal.” The book features “illustrated spot-on book covers and journaling prompts that capture the mundane woes and everyday challenges that you’re technically not allowed to complain about but are definitely thinking about.” According to the creator, whatever life throws at you, “you’ll find support for life’s little injustices, plus the space to commiserate and reflect.”

A typical sentence I’ve heard a lot of people (and sometimes myself) say is, ‘Oh, great start to the day!’ With sarcastic irony, of course. At that point, when we say that, the ‘negative bias’ effect can start," Toxavidi said.

"As humans, we create the environment that we think about, so if someone thinks positively, they will see the world more through a positive lens and little mishaps may have a lower effect on them. While someone who is pessimistic and sees the world through a negative lens can be affected more by little misfortunate mishaps," Toxavidi highlighted the power of positive thinking.

While small mishaps can happen all the time and even every day, how we control our thoughts and what perspective we have on unfortunate events can help us determine how the rest of our day goes. Toxavidi argues that we can control how long we feel negatively after bad events by shifting our view of what occurred. And this is key in taking back the control into our own hands.

I Turned A Rusty Old Railroad Spike Into A Quillon Dagger

When many people look at the railroad spike they see nothing more than scrap metal, something that needs to be tossed in the bin and recycled into something else. In the eyes of a blacksmith or bladesmith it takes on a whole different persona, It may become a set of tongs, a plant hanging hook, a steak turner for the grill, even a knife, or in this case a dagger. I Weave Wall Tapestries Made From Natural Fibers And Dyes

My career in designing swimwear had a surprising twist. In twelve years of running the store, staff, and invigorating Seattle’s famously trigger-shy bikini wearers, I got a virtual Ph.D. in what women wanted from swimwear. I cultivated a passion for working with textiles through shape, color, and material, but I began to yearn for a more direct physical connection to my work. It wasn’t until I moved to the charming Victorian Seaport of Port Townsend that I discovered a hands-on response to my love for textiles through weaving.

Four years ago, I decided to take up a non-traditional form of weaving involving only a fairly basic homemade loom, hands, and fibers.

This began as a means to work through anxiety from a major life change, and quickly became a passion. In my discovery of weaving, something clicked, providing a meditative, even therapeutic, sense of rhythm and release like nothing else I had explored before.

In the process of developing my creative aesthetic, I found that the process of weaving strengthened my sense of intuition, while also connecting me more intimately to the natural landscape of the Salish sea coastline. In the past four years, I have dedicated myself full time to the exploration of fiber arts, with forays into rust-dying cloth strips, incorporating seaweed and driftwood alongside brass, copper, and raffia to create textural dreamscapes from my imagination.

The result is richly colored and deeply textured wall tapestries made from natural fibers and dyes.

My artwork emulates and pays homage to undersea lifeforms: clustered barnacles, coral reefs flamboyant with variety and nuance. I spin raw fibers, raffia, flax, silk, linen fabric strips, and a variety of plant and animal fibers. Using a handheld drop spindle, I create fibers whose colors and texture evoke organic lifeforms, often adding in strands of seaweed and bits of nature’s detritus found on seashore walks. I describe my ever-evolving creative process as one that brings me closer to nature and connects me to my senses.

Using mainly half-hitch knots, along with traditional warp and weft techniques I have experimented widely in the process of developing my own distinctive aesthetic. I found the process of weaving strengthened my sense of intuition, grounding my ideas in a daily practice that reveals my inner landscape. I describe my approach to weaving as being instinctive and organic, without planning or sketching the idea beforehand. In the process of creating, I attune to what feels right, and when it doesn’t, I’m known to undo hours’ worth of laborious work until it is.

I always loved flowers and was interested in saving some memory bouquets for a long time. I started by pressing them in books. I practiced a lot keeping flowers in the best condition possible because it’s important to make them look vivid and bright.
