If you’ve ever owned a glass-top stove, you know that appearances can be deceiving. Upscale and sleek in design, they look super easy to wipe off and keep looking shiny and new. You’ve probably learned that over time, caked-on food can build up and leave an obvious-looking mess.

So how exactly do you achieve a clean stove top without scratching it and/or wasting hours of your time?

As the former owner of a successful cleaning company, I can assure you that the task doesn’t have to be difficult. As long as you follow a few simple steps, you can keep your stovetop looking new. You just need a few common household cleaning products.

Here are step-by-step instructions for how to clean a glass stove top.

Materials needed

White vinegar
Spray bottle
Baking soda
Towel (preferably an old one)
Microfiber cloth
Single-edge razor blade
Bar Keepers Friend Multipurpose Cooktop Cleaner (optional)

How to clean a glass stove top

Step 1: Let the surface of the stovetop cool

Not only is touching a hot cooktop generally a bad idea, but spraying any type of cleaner onto the glass while it’s still hot can actually burn pits into the surface. This is something you definitely want to avoid going about stove cleaning.

Let the surface fully cool before you get to work. While you're waiting, take an opportunity to check your stove’s user manual. If you don’t have it, you can usually find them pretty easily online.

If the manual provides specific steps for cleaning the surface, you’ll want to default to following those instructions first. (That includes any list of things that you should not use to clean the glass stovetop.)

Step 2: Spray the surface with vinegar

White vinegar is more than just an ingredient in the kitchen.

Using a spray bottle, evenly spray white vinegar across the glass cooktop. The acidity in the vinegar helps cut through any grease sitting around. And it does so without needing to use a harmful chemical product that could damage the glass top.

Step 3: Sprinkle the surface with baking soda

Baking soda and vinegar combine to make a bubbly cleaning solution.

Have you ever seen what happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar together? If you have, then you know it creates a powerful bubbling effect. Because of this, we recommend sprinkling baking soda directly onto the sprayed vinegar, concentrating on the areas with the most buildup.

The bubbling action helps penetrate and lift caked-on food from the surface.

Step 4: Cover the stove with a towel

Soak a towel in hot water and lay it across the entire surface of your stove. Then leave it for the next 10 or 15 minutes, so that everything you’ve done so far can work its magic.

If you have children, you’ll want to keep an extra eye on them so that they don’t accidentally turn the stove on with the towel still laying on top. Obviously, that’s a fire hazard we want to avoid.

Step 5: Wipe the glass-top surface down

Use a microfiber cloth to clean your glass stove top.

You’re almost done! Remove the towel, give everything another spray of vinegar, and begin wiping the glass top off with a microfiber cloth. A microfiber cloth works better than regular towels or paper towels, which can leave streaks and fuzz across your freshly cleaned surface.

You’ll definitely want to avoid using abrasive sponges or brushes. These can leave lots of tiny surface scratches and give the glass-top stove an overall hazy appearance.

Step 6: Use a razor blade to remove any remaining residue

Hopefully by now your glass-top stove is looking shiny as new—but if not, don’t panic!

Any remaining residue can be removed by spraying it with vinegar and then gently scraping the surface with a razor blade.

Holding the blade at a 45 degree angle, be careful to keep it even. Applying too much pressure to the blade corner or scraping with the blade straight up and down can leave deep scratches on the glass that can be difficult to remove.

Now you've finished your deep scrub, and your kitchen is looking brand new. But the work isn't over. If you're wondering how to clean a glass stove top—and keep it clean—the key is regular upkeep.

Remembering to remove any spills or drips right after cooking can help you to avoid burnt build-up. Spraying the entire glass top with vinegar and wiping it down with a microfiber cloth in between deep cleans can keep it looking brand-new.

If you’re feeling like maybe you need something a bit stronger (like glass cleaner), make sure that you use a product specifically designed for cleaning glass-top stoves. Cue the fanfare. The reviews are in and showering the Apple MacBook Air 13 M4 with universal praise—us included. Under-the-hood improvements to the processor, coupled with the great battery life and portability that we loved in the M3 make this the best ultraportable on the market (and that's saying something, considering the stiff competition from some Windows laptops). The drawbacks are few, notably that the glare-reducing nano-texture display is not an option like it is on the Pro M4. Also, the fanless cooling can cause some slowdown during processor-intensive applications. But on the whole, the MacBook Air 13 M4 is the new best in class and makes a case for itself as the most compelling Mac on the market right now.

The exterior design of the M4 is largely unchanged from the M3: same great keyboard, but the 13.6-inch LCD screen is outclassed by the optional anti-glare screen for the Pro M4 as well as OLEDs on competing laptops.

The Apple MacBook Air 13 M4 comes in three basic configurations starting at $999, $1,199, and $1,399, each with options to upgrade the SoC, memory, and storage. Apple users are of course familiar with the brand’s predilection for discouraging post-purchase mods, so it’s recommended that you think ahead when spec’ing out your Mac. Upgrading the memory, in particular, can be a great long-term investment, though the new 16GB baseline might be enough if you’re on a tight budget.

The most significant upgrade from the M3 is the processing power. The M4 has a 10-core CPU, versus an 8-core on the M3. While Apple states that the M4 is twice as fast as the M1, the performance gap between the M4 and M4 is less dramatic. The new chip also powers the Neural Engine, which they call Apple Intelligence, to accelerate AI-based tasks. Apple lags the competition in built-in AI features, but expect them to build out these tools in the coming years.

An improved 12MP webcam is one of the other upgrades from the M3. It uses a wide-angle lens and some smart processing to follow your image as you move around the field of view.

The fanless cooling—one of the key differences from the MacBook Pro—has its upsides and downsides While it makes for near-silent operation, you could experience throttling during CPU- and GPU-intensive applications.

The exterior design is nearly identical to the M3: super slim and lightweight. It’s a commuter’s dream that, unfortunately, leaves little room for ports. The LED-backlit 13.6-inch screen gets the job done, but is outpaced by competitors and makes one wonder when Apple will make the switch to OLED. All versions of the M4 Air 13-inch are identically spec’d with a MagSafe 3 power port, a headphone jack, and two Thunderbolt ports. Color options include Silver, Starlight, Midnight, and (new for the Air) a very subtle Sky Blue color.

Thin is in with the latest MacBook Air M4 (2025), the 0.45-inch thin yet impressively powerful laptop powered by Apple’s own M4 chip.

If my hands-on time with the hardware is any indication, it’s super comfortable, quiet, and with battery life that’s very close to the estimated 18 hours.

Just don’t fall for the touted Apple Intelligence features, as the AI isn’t fully realized—yet. That, and 512GB should be the minimum storage configuration instead of 256GB (which really isn’t enough these days).

But at $100 less than the previous MacBook Air, this middle-of-the-road machine is a worthy consideration for those itching for an upgrade.

Available in 13- or 15-inches and a new color (metallic light blue), longtime Mac users will appreciate the familiar look and feel (which is cool to the touch), but with peppier performance than you might expect. Granted, content creators may opt for a MacBook Pro, but this M4-powered MacBook Air proved surprisingly capable, evident in first- and third-party apps, like iMovie and Adobe Photoshop, respectively.

Given the entry-level price—starting at $899 for education pricing on the 13-inch model (before any trade-ins)—students in particular will get a lot out of this MacBook. Plus, there’s an upgraded Center Stage camera for crisp FaceTime video calls, support for multiple monitors, and several useful MacOS Sequoia features. Offering good bang for the buck, I can attest MacBook M4 (2025) is a stellar pick for Apple fans who want more for less.

Across the board, professional reviewers love the Apple MacBook Air 13 M4. Several reviews name it as a best-in-class laptop. At worst, you’ll find some chiding of Apple iterating rather than innovating—a fair criticism, in our opinion, though one that hardly detracts from the value of the M4.

ArsTechnica: “I have no notes”

ArsTechnica did not hold back on its praise of the MacBook Air M4, boldly proclaiming “I have no notes” in the headline. Their benchmark testing showed that the Air M4 performed identically to the Pro M4 in lighter tests, only slowing in longer-running tests due to throttling.

They ultimately conclude that “For anyone other than people who absolutely need or require an operating system that isn't macOS, this is the default laptop.”

Rting's extensive benchmark testing highlighted one notable weak spot for the MacBook Air M4: GPU-intensive applications, especially gaming. The fanless design means that performance is sometimes throttled to prevent overheating.

“If you want the smoothest experience or the fastest render times, it's best to get an Apple MacBook Pro with more GPU cores or a Windows laptop with an NVIDIA dedicated GPU that supports Optix.” The 60Hz refresh rate also caused noticeable ghosting. Among several possible use cases, RTings final verdict is that the MacBook Air 13 M4 is best for students and business.

PCMag: “A better Air than ever, but here come the PCs”

PCMag declared the Air 13 M4 as the MacBook that's right for most people. “But why not a higher Editors' Rating than last year's M3 Air earned? Its Windows-ultraportable competition has been hitting the gym double-time.”

They praise all the same points as other reviewers, and uncover the same strengths and weaknesses in benchmark testing, but emphasize the pressure that competing AMD- and Intel-based Windows notebooks have put on Apple to make bigger improvements in the next-gen model.

What’s the best way to cook ham?

Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve stood out among the hand creams we tested. Though “salve” may conjure up images of a thick ointment, this is a creamy formula that’s thick enough to deeply moisturize dry, cracked hands but lightweight enough to absorb into the skin with a gentle massage.

After a minute of letting this sit on my hands, I could still feel it on my skin, but it wasn’t greasy, slimy, powdery, or filmy—it just felt like my hands, but better. The moisturized feeling lasted well throughout the day, despite a few hand washings.

It has a slight eucalyptus scent, thanks to its inclusion of eucalyptus oil, but it doesn’t linger and it won’t overpower the aroma of the food you’re eating or the perfume you’re wearing.

I also loved the convenience of the hand cream’s squeeze tube and flip cap dispenser. I have no doubt that the 2.5- or 5-ounce tubes would last you quite a while. I tested the latter size and it’s a bit too bulky for my purse, but it’s easy enough to store at home or at work on my desk.

The Jergens Ultra Healing Hand & Body Cream feels just as great on the skin as our Best Overall once absorbed, but it has a thinner consistency that’s even easier to rub into the skin. While some hand creams feel like a film over your hands, this one, like the Kiehl’s, felt like my hands, just healthier with the added hydration. The standout result of using this moisturizer is not only how silky my hands felt after, but how it didn’t leave my finger grips or palms feeling oily.

It has a slightly sweet, clean-smelling scent—shea butter is one of the main ingredients. I love the smell, but if you’re sensitive to fragrance, it may be too strong for you, as it lingers until washed off

I did not like this cream’s octagon-shaped, twist-off cap. While a small detail, I noticed throughout testing that several hand creams have this cap shape and that the points of the octagon scratch at my already dry and irritated hands when I’m opening the bottle for some relief. (On the other, er, hand, it makes it slightly easier to tighten back on with lotion-slick fingers.)

The texture of this Aesop Aromatique “balm” has the consistency of a lotion and lies somewhere in between the Kiehl’s and the Jergens in thickness. It spreads with ease across the hands and dries down to a soft but slightly tacky finish after a minute or two.

Similar to the Jergens, I noticed that it left behind less oil on the pads of my fingers and palms than others on this list, which is why it’s higher up on this list. I tested it in the fragrance “Resurrection,” which has a subdued citrusy, herbal aroma. This hand cream also comes in a “Reverence” fragrance with smoky, earthy notes.

Nécessaire The Hand Cream

If you need a truly fragrance-free hand cream, look no further than this one from Nécessaire. It doesn’t smell like much of anything at all, nor does it smell like unmasked chemicals. This could be your answer for your sensitive skin or nose.

I adore the creams higher up on this list, but this one earned a spot on my nightstand after testing. It has a consistency that’s a tad thicker than our top picks, which I like for overnight wear, but it’s still easy to disperse over my hands and quick to absorb into my skin.

It left a healthy-looking sheen on my nails and skin without staining my clothing (none of the hand creams stained, but the shine of this one made me cautious at first). The moisturizing effect of this cream lasted a couple of hours, but my hands were mostly back to their normal dry state after several hours and a few hand washes.

You’ve probably never thought about your trash cans much, especially your outdoor trash can. That’s until a raccoon or a rat decides your outdoor garbage receptacle is an all-you-can-eat buffet by getting in your bin and tearing the trash bag to shreds. After an incident like that, your garbage can quickly become the worst thing ever invented. Then comes the headache that is shopping for a new one because the hardware store won’t let you bring your own varmint to see the toughness of each model.

Reviewed is here to help. We spent several weeks prodding, stuffing, and dropping from the second floor some of the top-selling 32-gallon outdoor trash cans to find which ones are worth your money. After tallying up the results, the Toter Blackstone (available at Amazon) proved itself resilient, easy to use, and easy to secure, allowing it to claim the top spot but others were close behind.

The Toter Blackstone won our best overall award when it came to a tough outdoor trash cans for a reason. By being versatile, flexible, and mobile it beat out the rest of the competition with ease.

When you first see the Toter, you'll notice that it towers over other garbage cans, measuring in at 37.5 inches tall. During testing, we found that the taller, funnel-like profile increased the odds that the trash bags we dumped were secure. When loaded with trash, we also noticed that the entire barrel leans forward a bit. This design choice lent itself to stability, absorbing normal bumps and shocks without tipping, which was a big plus.

Aside from tipping over, the next biggest headache comes from animals getting into your trash. While the Blackstone does not come with a method to secure its lid, a single bungee cord can turn this garbage can into a critter-proof fortress. All you need to do is to hook the cord onto the handle on the back and stretch it to the one on the front. The swinging lid does make it easier to open with one hand and since it's attached you'll never lose it on windy days.

After taking into account its ergonomic design and rugged construction, we think the Toter Blackstone is going to suit most households as a solid outdoor trash can. It's more expensive than most models but you get quality in return so you won't feel bad about the extra bucks.

The Rubbermaid Brute is the best basic outdoor trash can we tested.

We think the name Brute fits this squat and durable trash barrel perfectly. Rubbermaid constructed this model out of commercial-grade plastic to resist cracking, warping, and even degrading from the sun. Even the lid has a ribbed interior to prevent it from getting crushed, which it needed during our testing. Indeed, we assaulted the Brute with boots and mallets, dragged it over cracked asphalt, and even threw it off our loading dock but nothing we did could end this garbage can's reign.

As much as we like its durability, we found that this model has other virtues as well. Its interior has special grooves carved into the side to aide in the removal of garbage bags. If you don't use bags, there are handles on the side and bottom to help empty the Brute.

Amongst all the models we tested, the Brute is the only non-wheeled model that we'd trust to drag to the curb season after season and to weather every condition. It's worth noting that while the lid may be tough, it's not attached so it can still be lost. Plus, while the bottom may be durable it's a pain to drag about. Finally, the Brute's squat design makes it tougher but a low center of gravity makes it harder to pick up.

If you're looking for a heavy duty trash barrel that sit in one spot or if you need a large container for storage, our tests show the Rubbermaid Brute is the way to go.

Other Garbage Cans We Tested

Behrens Galvanized Steel 31 Gal.

You can't have a roundup of trash cans and not include an Oscar the Grouch house! The Behrens 31 Gallon Galvanized Steel garbage can has plenty going for it. First, amongst all the trash cans we tested, it was certainly the easiest to clean. The stainless-steel body has no odd corners in the interior so it's easy to wash out without having to get down and dirty. Regularly washing out your trash cans can help keep critters away. Not that many pests can chew their way through steel. Our second favorite aspect was this trash can's durability. After accepting all the punishment we had to give, we were able to bend the Behrens back into place and think that it would hold up well over time.

While this garbage can may be good enough to accommodate Oscar, it isn't good enough to take a top spot. One of the reasons is that it's designed to be stationary. We found that the handles are not that ergonomic, cutting into your fingers after only a short distance. If you decide to drag it, be prepared for your neighbors waking up because the Behrens makes quite the racket. Both these issues pale in comparison to the fact that the Brehrens is difficult to open when empty. The lid grips the body strong enough that it takes a bit of trash can yo-yo-ing to get it open. Because of that issue, we think the Brehens would be ideal for holding birdseed or dog food but wouldn't choose it as our preferred outdoor trash can.

Rubbermaid Ace 32 Gal.

Did you know that Rubbermaid makes an exclusive trash barrel just for Ace Hardware? Now you do. It's basically a wheelless Roughneck with an Ace logo on the side. During testing we found it to be a bit flimsy. The issue was especially true with the domed lid, which was crushed and bent out of shape more easily than its competitors. These durability concerns are not deal breakers but are certainly not attributes of an award winner. The lid popped off when it tipped over and its sides gave way more to impacts so it lost out to other models during testing.

The Ace's performance might not live up to its namesake but it's well priced. You can get a bargain on mediocrity, especially if you're an Ace Hardware rewards member and if you're looking for a low-price outdoor trash can this could be it.
