Winds aloft direction

I heard a statement from an experienced instructor that winds aloft direction points to, not from the wind direction.

For example, winds aloft of 2715 would be interpreted as winds blowing to 270 at 15. I’ve always interpreted winds aloft direction as from, so in this example it would be blowing from 270 @ 15.

Have I been doing it wrong this whole time?

I have an ATP license on Multi Engine Land, and Commercial on Single Engine Land.

My question is if you no longer Operate ATP or Commercial, your are flying your own single engine airplane Part 91, then you are using your private license privileges right?
to operate you only need a Third Class medical correct?

I’m a private pilot that’s building hours, and I came across a job offer for a seasonal aerial right seater with the description:

Assist pilot and observe from the right seat position of Aircraft

Since the job only lists “assist”, would I be able to log hours as a safety pilot or something while getting paid since I wouldn’t be acting as PIC? Are there any regulations against this? I know the FARs prohibit pay for hire as PIC with a PPL

I am a commerical student and had a question about instrument procedures. If you lose Glideslope past FAF, do you have to go missed?

I have heard that if you are before the FAF and lose glideslope, you should raise your minimums to non precision mins. However, past the FAF you should go missed.

If you are past the FAF and go missed before the DA on a precision, would you climb to your initial altitude on the missed procedure, proceed to the MAP, then execute the missed instructions?

Carb Heat Off on Final after Making the Runway

So I saw a YouTube video the other day where a guy is flying a carb engine 172 and is on final. As he approaches the end of the runway he declares that he has “made the runway”, and knocks off the carb heat. His reasoning is that in case of a go around, he is one step ahead.

I’ve never seen this, and I don’t plan on starting to do it either. Even when practicing go arounds, I still go throttle, carb heat, and then flaps.

Maybe I am missing something because the video did make me curious. Perhaps some of the veteran CFI’s here can comment.

How many separate checkouts make reasonable sense for the various C-172 Configurations?

I completed two separate aircraft checkouts with a CFI so I could rent a carb vs a fuel injected C-172. That makes sense. Same repeat story with a steam gauge vs a G-1000 equipped TAA C-172.

So I am now renting at a different Flight School. It is a new ball game, and not all lucky C-172 combinations of features are available.

Aside from the preceding categories, is it reasonable to require separate check outs for:

C-172’s equipped with O-320 vs O-360 vs O-300 engines.

C-172’s with electric vs pre 1964 Johnson Bar Flap Controls.

Earlier straight tail (taller landing gear) vs later swept tail (lower landing gear) 172’s.

Again, I am at a new flight school and trying to minimize the number of separate “check outs” needed to be able to rent the broadest range of C-172’s for VFR only recreational daytime flying. I understand the priority on safety, but it should be tempered with a degree of reasonableness. A vintage shot gun instrument panel vs more recent 6 Pack instrument configuration shouldn’t be an issue for a PPL or above. Or should it ?

I require 25 hours multi (15 aircraft 10 simulator) . If I do 10 hours of multi during the complex 10 hours during commercial single . And during multi add on 5 aircraft 10 simulators under an part 141 school. Will this work.

Can please provide with multi add on part 141 minimum requirements for checkride.

I recently got out of the military and am looking to get my helicopter CFI add-on. I already have my helicopter commercial and instrument ratings, 930 helicopter hours including 300+ as PIC. I recently took the MCI test and obtained my fixed-wing CFI. What additional steps would I need to take to obtain my helicopter CFI?

Hi. I am , Aviation Manager of a Colombian corporate company.

All planes we have are N registration and we all fly them here with FAA ATP license.

Now the company just hired a new pilot with a commercial Colombian license and he also has his private FAA license.

Can he fly here in colombia with the FAA private license as a SIC or because this is not a commercial company also as PIC?

Private Pilot part 91 SIC for hire

In FAR 61 sub. E no person who holds a Private Pilot Certificate may act as Pilot in Command PIC of an aircraft for compensation or hire.

What about a person who holds a Private Pilot Certificate and is in the SIC position. Can this person be compensated or for hire? FAR part 91 King Air 200. Our company GOM requires a two Pilot Crew which supersedes the FAR, which the King Air only requires one Pilot. I am not the Private Pilot Certificate Holder I am an ATP Certified Pilot. Our company has two foreign pilots who hold an FAA Private License with a Foreign License. Hope this clarifies.

In order to be a part of ISBAO the company must comply with a GOM for the company. It is not approved by the FAA, but it does exist and is approved by the company, with rules that are more restrictive than the FARs.

I see some of the responses as to the King Air 200 is not required to have an SIC. I understand Required to mean that this Aircraft can be flown Single Pilot. Required to me does not mean this Aircraft Must Be and can only Be flown Single Pilot, without anyone occupying the SIC position. If a part 91 operator wants the security of a two Pilot Crew in a plane not requiring two pilots they are allowed to operate a two Pilot crew.

The regulation now on who can occupy the SIC position says a minimum license requirement is a Private Pilot License. I understand this to mean a owner or anyone not for hire can occupy the SIC position.

Also having a GOM regulations for how the company will operate even though not approved by the FAA. I think the FAA would look at and the Lawyers would say it definitely has relevance and regulatory responsibility.

My question is this ( and this has two questions when entering the hold) ; When entering the hold from a parallel entry, when do you advise ATC when you are entering and becoming established in the hold?

My second question is the same concept but during a direct entry. When is it the best time to Advise ATC when you are entering and becoming established in the hold.\

ADF navigation question

An aircraft is flying to an ADF. The true heading to the ADF is 90°. The magnetic heading is 088° (2°E variation). After a few minutes, the pilot discovers that he has drifted 10° to the left, and the ADF needle indicates 020° relative bearing. What is the magnetic heading the aircraft should fly to in order to reach the ADF? The answer is 118 degrees, but I don’t understand why.
