Cross Country Solo Question

Hey! So I’ve been reading through the requirements for solos hours and cross-country solo hours. Since it says in 61.93 of the FAR that a cross country solo is anything over 25nm from the home airport, wouldn’t a solo to an airport 30nm away count? And if it does count then would you have to do a there and back trip or could you go to that airport and then do some take off and landing practice. I think I have the gist of it but still kind of confused.

Hi, y’all. I don’t know where to go at this point. I started my CPL training a month and a half ago at my college-affiliated 141 school, and after 15 hours, I still have yet to get my VFR proficiency back to my instructor’s standards after instrument. The problem with this predicament is that my school’s syllabus only allows one dual XC flight to get VFR proficient after IRA. Any time it’s not up to the completion standards of the lesson, it gets “unsatted,” and the school’s management requires you to complete it without any unsat items three times in a row. If you screw up on a flight and the instructor “unsats” you, the clock restarts, and you have to make three successful flights after that to move on. This one lesson is holding me back from getting other helpful training for the commercial checkride, because the next items in the syllabus are solo XCs and night ops.

Needless to say, it’s been incredibly soul-sucking, and it’s now making me start to lose my drive to continue. I feel like I’m being held back from progressing simply because it’s taking me a little longer to get back into the VFR groove and now, I’m starting to have feelings that, even if I switch to Part 61, the damage has already been done to my drive to pilot for my career. My university has, in a way, nearly ruined flying for me; the general culture here is incredibly robotic and soulless and treats it like a job more than an opportunity to learn (they make us wear full-on uniforms in 172’s, I kid you not, charging you a “no show” fee if you deviate ever so slightly). This latest roadblock is one of many I encountered throughout my PPL and IRA training.

So, in short, my question is this: Do you think it would be a wise choice to drop out of 141 and give 61 training for commercial and CFI a try, or should I cut my losses ($ and time) and find an alternate career path? I’ll have a degree in Aviation Management (I double-majored) in May, so I already have backup plans. However, I don’t want to rule out Part 61 if my 141 is the only thing making me hate flying right now.

Kortokrax, Olshock LOI’s (CFI/student currency) Rescinded

The memorandums stated that the LOI’s for Kortokrax, Olshock, and Schaffner were rescinded on July 23, 2023. I just wanted to share the information. CPL Glider to PPL ASEL

I see there are several charts at the end of Glider and ASEL ACS charts to add ratings to ones respective license. However, I am having considerable trouble finding a chart or guide (if there is one) on what tasks need to be demonstrated for a pilot at the Commercial level that is looking to apply for a rating at the Private level. The example that was pitched to me during my CFI oral prep was “What additional tasks must a CPL Glider pilot need to apply/test for PPL ASEL rating.” I would suggest from the applicant to shoot for CPL ASEL as I feel its more beneficial overall for the investment, but for the sake of future curveballs, and now a burning curiosity, I am desperately seeking a regulation answer to put this monster to rest! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I fly into KCLT for some Class B practice. As normal I am assigned the Knights Three. So fly runway heading to 4000 expect vectors in 10 min. BUT if I was assigned the DEBIE transition how would I fly it? Would I do a turn to the CLT/VOR then outbound on the R-255 OR would ground give specific instructions?

My clearance is, “Cleared as filed. Climb and maintain 2000’. Expect Fl250 ten minutes after departure.” When contacting Departure I’m told to “Climb via the SID.” The top altitude for the SID is At or Above 10,000 feet. Do I level off at 10, 000 feet since I haven’t received clearance higher?

it is a common practice at the uncontrolled field I fly from for gliders to use a descending 1 nm+ crosswind pattern entry, crossing over the runway extended centerline at the numbers and TPA. What are the possible downsides to this entry for non-gliders and gliders alike?
