On one hand, it gives you a direct line of connection to your fans, a platform where you can share your work, and the chance to build a loving community around your art form. On the other hand, it can be a confidence killer, energy drainer, and a negative influence on your mental health if you aren’t careful. Between the pressure to stay relevant, the endless scrolling of people’s best moments, and the chase for likes and shares, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why it’s so important to set boundaries and protect your mental health when you’re online.

If you’re looking to foster a healthier relationship with your social media usage, I get it. (You and me both.) Here’s everything you need to know to create a relationship with social media that benefits your artistry, not takes away from it. Let’s dive in…

How to Protect Your Mental Health on Social Media as an Artist

Comparison, Imposter Syndrome, and Validation Loops

Social media puts both your work and life on full display, and that comes with a whole set of emotional challenges. Seeing other artists’ highlight reels can make your own journey seem smaller, less worthy, even. That’s the comparison trap in full swing. The constant measuring of your own success vs everyone else’s best moments.

This comparison fuels what we call impostor syndrome, that nagging feeling that you aren’t good enough, don’t deserve the success you’ve earned, or that you’re an impostor faking your way up. Even if you’re killing it, doing the best you ever have, imposter syndrome tells you that you’re not as talented as you think.

Not only that, but then there’s the validation cycle. Chasing likes, comments, and shares to feel seen and valued. It’s easy to get hooked on these digital affirmations, but relying on them for your own self-worth is the last thing you want to do. You aren’t alone in feeling this way. And understanding these patterns is the first step to breaking free of these self-imposed limitations.

From there, it’s all about shifting your approach and posting with intention, not obligation. How can you do this? The next step is getting intentional about how and why you show up online in the first place.

Intentional Posting vs. Chasing Engagement

Before you post, ask yourself one simple question… “Why am I sharing this?” Is it because you genuinely want to express something, or are you just looking for validation in the form of likes? (Too real? <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f606.png" alt=" Logic Pro 11 - How to Make Soul Melodies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGjhoquhU30 Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:67a93cbc-4c99-4193-9411-ac9c334ccfa5 Thu, 26 Jun 2025 19:24:43 +0000 Logic Pro 11 - How to Make The Neptunes Melodies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9DlQjZlxvw Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:57562fcf-a09d-6812-4d70-6d9e80b082cb Wed, 25 Jun 2025 21:05:10 +0000 Logic Pro 11 - How to Make Trap Melodies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEHkopCoVP4 Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:6ecc7aeb-2410-d120-716c-dc1566e8a070 Wed, 25 Jun 2025 20:59:49 +0000 Logic Pro 11 - How to Make Hip Hop Melodies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ9yHNyhcvw Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:9932721c-799a-9b68-34ec-70cadeebf8ac Wed, 25 Jun 2025 20:08:16 +0000 Your Story Starts Here: A Chapter of Naomi Jane https://blog.symphonic.com/2025/06/25/your-story-starts-here-a-chapter-of-naomi-jane/ Symphonic Distribution urn:uuid:f5d00268-57a3-8ec9-96c2-5c87aa15149a Wed, 25 Jun 2025 18:22:53 +0000
Every artist has a story. For this chapter, we handed Naomi Jane a disposable camera and asked her to document the world behind her music. Her snapshots offer a glimpse into a life shaped by coast-to-coast influences, raw emotion, and a deep love for storytelling in all its forms. Alongside the photos, we spoke with her about how songwriting became her outlet, the meaning behind tracks like “Little Miss,” and what she’s learned while turning her diary into a debut EP. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f30a.png" alt=" Ray Daniels Defends Timbaland AI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DQ8Q9H3oqw Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:8ab155e1-2061-5717-67b0-56a04a7c2571 Wed, 25 Jun 2025 18:13:59 +0000 JAWNS - Body Bandit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-mcWBltZdc Trap Nation urn:uuid:ba18112e-97b0-99bd-60cd-73398fd533f2 Wed, 25 Jun 2025 14:12:00 +0000 Ask Me Anything about Music Production | LIVE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMYPEFJpBz0 Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:8d43a643-0b0a-be06-24f5-5e818ba6e71e Wed, 25 Jun 2025 11:24:52 +0000 United Masters Same Day Payouts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_lG7uhWFLs Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:6b8d6e18-010b-3028-9708-1ab0d8f98f33 Tue, 24 Jun 2025 23:31:37 +0000 How to Split Responsibilities Within Your Label to Build the Ultimate Team https://blog.symphonic.com/2025/06/24/how-to-split-responsibilities-within-your-label-to-build-the-ultimate-team-2/ Symphonic Distribution urn:uuid:5bced234-55e3-641d-a8a1-dbe78cec1651 Tue, 24 Jun 2025 20:51:04 +0000
Running an independent label requires the finesse of a well-oiled machine. It takes a team that knows their roles: what they’re doing, when they’re doing it, and how it all fits together. Without clear guidelines, roles get blurred, communication breaks down, and things start slipping through the cracks. But with a solid structure and the right tools to support your efforts, you can create a workflow that keeps everyone aligned and actually working together.

Splitting responsibilities isn’t just about divvying up the work; it’s about building a system where each person has defined ownership, clarity, and room to thrive in their role. Whether you’re running a tight-knit crew or managing a fast-growing team, here’s everything you need to know to create the team of your dreams…

How to Split Responsibilities Within Your Label to Build the Ultimate Team

Define Every Role as Clearly as Possible

Before you dive in too deep, start with the basics. Every member of your label’s team should have a clearly defined role, and more importantly, a clear scope of what that role includes. That means outlining not just the job title, but what success looks like in that role, which decisions they own, and how they collaborate with others.

For example, if someone’s handling A&R, are they also managing communication with artists? Are they expected to hand off releases to marketing, or are they involved in campaign planning too? The more clarity you can provide upfront, the fewer mix-ups you’ll run into down the line. Defining roles also helps avoid the dreaded “too many cooks in the kitchen” situation, where everyone’s chiming in, but no one’s actually responsible.

Once you’ve laid the groundwork, it’s time to take it a step further by breaking down exactly how responsibility is shared across tasks… and that’s where a responsibility matrix comes in.

What is a Responsibility Matrix?

Once you’ve defined everyone’s roles, the next step is to get specific about how your team works together on individual projects and who’s involved at every level. For indie labels, especially where team members often wear multiple hats, having a simple framework to clarify responsibilities can make a huge difference. That’s where a responsibility matrix like RACI works wonders. What’s that, you may ask? RACI stands for:

Responsible: The person doing the work

Accountable: The person who owns the outcome

Consulted: Anyone who gives input or advice

Informed: People who need to stay in the loop

Let’s say you’re prepping for an upcoming single release. Your marketing lead might be Responsible for building the promo plan, the label founder is Accountable for the release’s overall success, A&R is Consulted to make sure the messaging aligns with the artist’s brand, and the artist’s manager is Informed along the way.

Even with a small team, mapping out tasks this way helps prevent confusion and ensures nothing falls through the cracks. You don’t need fancy software either, just a shared doc or spreadsheet works just fine. The goal is simple: make sure everyone knows exactly what’s expected of them and how their role fits into the bigger picture. Easy enough, right?

——

Want to learn more about the world of indie labels? Especially for indie labels where people may be juggling other jobs, working remotely, or switching between creative and admin tasks, regular check-ins and simple project management tools can make all the difference.

To start, consider scheduling quick weekly meetings with the team. Even just 15-30 mins is enough. Use this meeting to review what’s in progress, what’s coming up, and if anyone needs any support. To keep the meeting focused, use a shared agenda or tracker (like a Google doc/sheet) that everyone can update beforehand. It saves time, keeps priorities clear, and makes space for more strategic conversations rather than just status updates.

But outside of meetings, task management tools can help make sure things stay on track between check-ins. Personally, I’ve used (and love) these, especially for small teams:

<img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f4da.png" alt=" The 50 Laws of Beat Making • Law 4 • Basslines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE8nCiRGIfs Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:e27767aa-9545-022e-f6fa-1562b13af49a Tue, 24 Jun 2025 15:45:20 +0000 The 50 Laws of Beat Making • Law 3 • Sampling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psz_wF5bYLQ Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:cfaa6f35-4e00-0c4d-45cb-240aec662053 Tue, 24 Jun 2025 03:42:03 +0000 The 50 Laws of Beat Making • Law 2 • 808s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XHUgMA2E8w Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:22c0a616-8902-49e6-f120-6a2f6020438e Tue, 24 Jun 2025 03:08:43 +0000 How to Make Your First Hip Hop Beat in FL Studio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5jq4ZoJPZc Busy Works Beats .TV urn:uuid:e13bb14b-97e5-36f9-1c3d-5cf8356f0517 Tue, 24 Jun 2025 01:18:52 +0000 Introducing Auto-Assign Splits in the SymphonicMS https://blog.symphonic.com/2025/06/23/introducing-auto-assign-splits-in-the-symphonicms-2/ Symphonic Distribution urn:uuid:c3bcccf5-2144-d5b2-aa23-86381be39fde Mon, 23 Jun 2025 19:41:19 +0000
Here at Symphonic, we’re proud to announce a brand-new feature in our SymphonicMS to help make managing royalty splits faster, easier, and more accurate than ever. What you may not know is that there are tons of other winners not shown on tv, most of which are talented independent artists who have been working just as hard as you are now. If you’re a talented musician, it’s not as hard as you think to get nominated for a GRAMMY, and it certainly is possible to win as an independent artist. Want to get yourself on the list of nominees? The Online Entry Process (OEP) for the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards begins on July 16, 2025! Here’s how to get involved…

How To Get Nominated For The 2026 GRAMMYs

Being able to flex your GRAMMY win is not only a personal flex, but a major win in the eyes of this competitive industry we call home. Adding this accomplishment to future press releases, EPK’s, and more is a huge selling point that can definitely secure yourself more interest in your work as you move through your career than you would without.

Even now, when the mainstream isn’t always so mainstream and the landscape of this business is continuously changing, the legitimacy and prestige of a GRAMMY will always be impressive.

To be eligible for submission, your release must meet these requirements:

Release Date //You can now submit recordings released from August 31, 2024, to August 30, 2025, for GRAMMY consideration.

Length // To be considered for album submission, a recording must contain at least five different tracks with a total playing time of 15 minutes, or a total playing time of 30 minutes with no minimum track amount. Singles have no such requirements.

Format // A submitted recording must be available for sale either in physical “brick and mortar” stores or online via digital download, or via a recognized streaming platform. A recording must meet the industry minimum standard 16-bit, 44.1 kHz rates. Each submitted song must have proper metadata credits (songwriters, producers, etc.) and International Standard Recording Codes (ISRCs) for each track.

Original Material // Starting with the 2023 GRAMMYs, an album must contain greater than 75 percent of newly recorded (within five years of the release date), recordings that have not been released prior. Currently the rule is 50 percent.

Are other credited personnel also eligible?

Yes!

For the 2026 GRAMMY ceremony and all ceremonies in the future, all credited artists (including featured artists), songwriters of new material, producers, recording engineers, mixers and mastering engineers are eligible to be nominated and win, at least in the Album Of The Year category.

Previously, all artists, songwriters, producers, recording engineers, mixers and mastering engineers were required to be credited with at least 33 percent or more of playing time. Now they’re eligible as long as they’re credited.

How are entries submitted for the GRAMMYs?

To be submitted for GRAMMY consideration, a recording must be entered by members of the Recording Academy who are either Professional or Voting members. How it works is each member of the Academy has an account on the GRAMMY website they can log in to and submit entries during the submission periods.

——

<img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f440.png" alt=" How important is a company’s website? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9iAFDzWWZag Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:2940f4b3-f924-3499-ab05-da6c1e840e5a Sat, 14 Jun 2025 21:11:22 +0000 MAJOR THREAT TO INDIE ARTISTS https://www.youtube.com/shorts/K_HSv8mkCp8 Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:f7bd655e-fce0-a8a3-fd13-a82053c6aede Fri, 13 Jun 2025 10:34:23 +0000 What’s Next For Music as a Product? https://www.youtube.com/shorts/muPaLgfpqt4 Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:28acd15c-5ec4-5749-52a3-7e6a421e715f Thu, 12 Jun 2025 19:06:20 +0000 Squired - TAKEOFF https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unj8yDtdv-c Trap Nation urn:uuid:56869d57-bafe-f6d8-065d-571d233db363 Tue, 10 Jun 2025 18:00:18 +0000 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/hTRLYplyXaU The Corporatethief Beats urn:uuid:19a1964b-9ec9-ad04-f18c-cba06dcd6b87 Fri, 06 Jun 2025 18:59:23 +0000 How To Write Rap Lyrics - the Key to Memorable Songs Mastering Rap Hooks #howtorap #rapping #shorts https://www.youtube.com/shorts/h3hHz2e7r04 The Corporatethief Beats urn:uuid:dd748097-a427-f586-4080-3302576550c6 Thu, 05 Jun 2025 21:45:27 +0000 Let’s talk about chatter around how you don’t need talent to make it in music. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/wI-Chna2tSU Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:316e9898-c7b3-bdde-5417-4eb2a2ed58b8 Thu, 05 Jun 2025 17:39:05 +0000 Yellow Claw, Yung Raja - Killing It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY1kxUdSKxQ Trap Nation urn:uuid:7e9764dc-4cd2-bd6e-2a8d-ada0b3813bc3 Thu, 05 Jun 2025 15:54:18 +0000 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eU0-KDeUnSA The Corporatethief Beats urn:uuid:652f06d0-515a-5899-abfc-c6a0c51b51c6 Thu, 05 Jun 2025 10:31:45 +0000 Bad Bunny - DtMF (Marshmello Remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRjHarvtX8U Trap Nation urn:uuid:aab2a51f-11db-6250-b9ef-359f80271776 Tue, 03 Jun 2025 15:35:02 +0000 Viperactive - Dead to Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HkTZQh99u4 Trap Nation urn:uuid:c9fab58d-7598-7846-a5ec-b7001a1387d5 Fri, 30 May 2025 18:43:53 +0000 Selling Music in 2025 Is a Charity, Not a Business https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6gXOMXVlwI Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:9fdd56d6-16af-62a7-122d-01300955020f Thu, 29 May 2025 00:40:11 +0000 TRXGGX - FEEL THIS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPMwi9_r1ZE Trap Nation urn:uuid:4461f65d-3911-1840-9019-bde7d85b0aa1 Tue, 27 May 2025 15:21:20 +0000 How does music monetization actually work today? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHi7GPIwSiI Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:b9b3b141-76b8-9805-2868-72fedef6d469 Thu, 22 May 2025 22:15:26 +0000 CAB - NITERAVE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxjP5yFqPQ0 Trap Nation urn:uuid:dfd42ae1-47a2-cf3c-13ca-64dc653c2286 Tue, 20 May 2025 14:34:14 +0000 The Truth About Music Distribution in 2025 – Pros, Cons, and What Artists Get Wrong https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMVm9VEaeSY Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:7fafe2aa-b280-7d7f-e572-5a2b37451b9f Mon, 19 May 2025 00:16:36 +0000 RIHANNA - WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN (AVELLO Remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QB-Px3txI0o Trap Nation urn:uuid:bd04609b-c01d-29ba-6b01-e9b6bb389b24 Thu, 15 May 2025 15:43:02 +0000 Juelz - ADRENOCHROME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGuWM-aP4KQ Trap Nation urn:uuid:d1b0e311-7b33-38ae-6722-7e11e1d1352c Tue, 13 May 2025 12:51:23 +0000 John Summit, HAYLA - WHERE YOU ARE (frosttop edit) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgNhcdmCkBY Trap Nation urn:uuid:1b5d744e-9087-d515-9c64-58493a08b9bc Fri, 09 May 2025 13:18:10 +0000 ROSSY - RUSH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J27j2c2z5ks Trap Nation urn:uuid:f1c6bfac-1b6b-301b-6c79-45b15e1ab7b3 Tue, 06 May 2025 15:27:05 +0000 ALEKO - Stardust https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5WsTBhYVzg Trap Nation urn:uuid:20c210e3-5f92-b82c-3aae-86dffc39b27f Thu, 01 May 2025 16:52:08 +0000 Alessia Cara & Salako - HERE (Hood Trap Remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXV-6NHxjXM Trap Nation urn:uuid:82167bf4-54df-5157-0afb-4f7f14e29a47 Tue, 29 Apr 2025 14:48:47 +0000 AI vs. Vocaloid: The Difference Explained with Guest @Yawningbirdies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K80NSvwHPUY Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:f880ede3-05bc-bbef-a65d-c9b1abd9c418 Sun, 13 Apr 2025 18:17:46 +0000 How Spotify Saves Artists Money (Even If They Don't See It) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFATUGhVMy8 Pay Us No Mind urn:uuid:0c9db575-d283-19d0-71cf-dd908e8b5532 Thu, 10 Apr 2025 19:15:16 +0000
