Spent two hours crawling around in a tight crawlspace chasing it down.

Turns out the homeowner spent Sunday cutting the copper line to install a water softener in the garage. He never installed a bond jumper.

So yeah…

   submitted by /u/The_Ashamed_Boys
[link] [comments] electricians /u/The_Ashamed_Boys what do you call these where you are from? https://www.reddit.com/r/electricians/comments/1o1ohd0/what_do_you_call_these_where_you_are_from/ Electricians of Reddit urn:uuid:ea7fcaac-088d-15d5-b4d8-9e9ab8e2da8d Wed, 08 Oct 2025 16:51:37 -0500

and what are they actually called

   submitted by /u/ronburgandy123
[link] [comments]

electricians /u/ronburgandy123 Quality control fail/WTF? https://www.reddit.com/r/electricians/comments/1o1o2jf/quality_control_failwtf/ Electricians of Reddit urn:uuid:c649036b-4236-be67-8f78-3f3e4c9b5bca Wed, 08 Oct 2025 16:34:36 -0500

Wiring a custom home about 6 months ago, happened to notice what looked like maybe either a melted spot or something gone wrong in the jacketing process at manufacturing but after getting a ladder and investigating further I realized: somebody fucked up….this was roughly in the middle of a 150’ 6/2 home run for an A/C unit (upsized for voltage drop). My best guess was: wire got damaged in manufacturing, some new guy or otherwise incompetent A-hole, decided to tape it, then in the megging stage (if that’s what they do/some sort of load test) the weak spot got hot and melted the tape/outer jacket. When I was hired I told them flat out I was a brand new journeyman that wanted to become a lead hand so I could eventually step into a foreman role. My company seemed to like this answer and promptly hired me. They then put me on a site with a foreman who I later found out was a brand new foreman and was being mentored by an additional foreman on site. So basically Senior foreman>foreman>me>apprentices.

As time has gone on ive realized all sorts of weird stuff. For starters the job started months before they were ever actually approved for a job permit. So had us working without a permit. Despite having no finalized IFC prints we were told nothing much will change on the new prints and to just go ahead and start. We worked until we ran out of work and were then given a new set of prints again not IFCs but "closer" to IFCs. We then worked again until we ran out of work. At this point I was basically sitting around doing the odd task while the 2 foreman above me worked on as builds and planned. I then got sent off site for 2.5 months to do odd jobs to stay busy.

Come 3 weeks ago I get sent back to site and told "im a good fit for a promotion" and that they want to make me a foreman and to finish up this job. At this stage of the job the original deadline has been completely abandoned and theyre now aiming for 7 months after their original end date. We're also now on our 4th revision of the prints that have had a ton of mechanical changes and other changes added to them. Ive basically been told I'll have support and can call people if I need help.

The current prints were working off still dont have a finalized IFC tag. They have notes saying they arent for construction until theyre signed off and stamped and they dont have any signature or stamp. However the GC has told us "these are the final prints nothing more is coming."

Before this job i hadn't even drawn out as builds before. I worked under foremen who gave me tasks and walked me through their as builds for specific areas. Now as a green journeyman with no foreman experience im being told "im a good fit for a promotion" despite never having even been an official lead hand. Furthermore every time theyve changed the prints we have to comb through the old a new sets to see what theyve updated.

I dont know. Every journeyman tells me their first year with their ticket theyve got imposter syndrome but how this job has been ran is really making the hairs on my neck stand up. On one hand im down to give it a shot and learn what I can from it. On the other hand I dont understand what liability im carrying as a new foreman which im pretty stressed over. My company has also taken on more jobs than they even have employees for so I kind of worry im not actually a good fit and rather they just needed someone certified to run the job and dont actually care much if im truly experienced enough.

Id really appreciate some advice. I really like my coworkers here. Everyone has been a lot nicer than my previous companies but the flip side is they also seem A LOT more disorganized than my previous companies. That being said maybe my last companies weren't as organized as I thought and its just now im getting a look behind the curtain.

Thoughts really appreciated.

Thanks.

   submitted by /u/babadoowaloo
[link] [comments] electricians /u/babadoowaloo Solar panels we installed today. 117 panels. https://www.reddit.com/r/electricians/comments/1o1f9vc/solar_panels_we_installed_today_117_panels/ Electricians of Reddit urn:uuid:db8f0422-20a3-7bf7-e2e2-a1ea5a0dbc65 Wed, 08 Oct 2025 11:26:12 -0500

Didn't think we would finish in one day.

   submitted by /u/PeppermintButler17
[link] [comments]

electricians /u/PeppermintButler17 any way to fix a burnt autotransformer? https://www.reddit.com/r/electricians/comments/1o1f748/any_way_to_fix_a_burnt_autotransformer/ Electricians of Reddit urn:uuid:8821203d-5b0f-527a-fe6b-b3bc7dc29432 Wed, 08 Oct 2025 11:23:23 -0500

it is burnt in low voltage area :

https://preview.redd.it/x2ix7alyywtf1.jpg?width=643&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1e3b3c9313dbe391f1bc645a1150dd1a093b978

   submitted by /u/Spiritual-Button1592
[link] [comments]

electricians /u/Spiritual-Button1592 How To Ask Previous Employer For My Total On The Job Hours That's Going Towards My License? https://www.reddit.com/r/electricians/comments/1o1bvji/how_to_ask_previous_employer_for_my_total_on_the/ Electricians of Reddit urn:uuid:f4f01b41-c3a9-200b-3771-148df3dc762a Wed, 08 Oct 2025 09:21:58 -0500

I worked for an Non-Union electrical company for around 3 months, and was let go.
